According to surveys (as of March 11, 1999), resident accidents are one of the top ten most frequently
cited deficiencies. Also, the Health Care Financing Administration (now CMS) has identified
accidents as one of the 24 quality indicators. This workshop addresses the issue of accidents or falls
by offering concrete assessment tools to assess residents’ risk for falls, and by suggesting ways to
reduce the numbers of falls that occur in the facility.
Learner Objectives:
At the end of the program, participants will be able to:
1. Identify a safe environment for residents who are high risk for falls.
2. List physical factors that put residents at high risk for falls.
3. Conduct assessments on residents who are high risk for falls.
4. Properly treat a diagnosis that puts residents at high risk for falls.
5. Identify various medications that increase the risk of falls.
6. Identify medications not associated with falls. |
